FAQs on Custom Orthotics:

What are orthotics?

An orthotic is a special insert for your shoe or heel designed to provide support and relieve pain due to a number of conditions in your feet, legs or back. Orthotics must be prescribed by a doctor, and they will be custom-fitted to the shape of your feet in order to address your specific needs.

Why might I need custom orthotics?

Custom made orthotics can relieve pain associated with a wide variety of conditions. Here are a few of the most common ailments that lead us to prescribe and create orthotics at San Antonio Podiatry and New Braunfels:

  • Arthritis (rheumatoid and osteoarthritis)
  • Diabetes
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Foot shape (flat feet, high arches)
  • Back pain
  • Foot and ankle injuries
  • Heel spurs
  • Bunions and hammer toes
  • Bursitis

Are orthotics the same as custom made foot insoles?

Even custom-made foot insoles cannot accomplish the same level of pain relief that orthotics can. While insoles are soft and easy to bend, custom orthotics are rigid, allowing them to fully support your plantar ligaments instead of simply contouring to your feet the way custom feet insoles do.

Can you make my custom orthotics?

Yes! San Antonio Podiatry Associates is proud to offer custom orthotics to our patients. If you believe custom orthotics will help you take the first step toward living pain free, schedule an appointment with us today. Your podiatry specialist will assess your symptoms, discuss your options, and take you through the process of creating your custom orthotics.
